Have you read this article? i have several people in my life that are constantly telling me that marathons are bad for me. in fact, it was one of them that emailed this to me. articles like this give them more ammo. the thing is, isn't everything bad for us to some extent?! the air we breathe. the things we eat. the things we do, and the things we don't do...take vitamins/don't take vitamins...
it seems like even when you think you are doing something that is good for you, you soon find out it isn't healthy after all.
i'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

I hear you, I think more people die from not exercising than exercising! Yes, a few people died during a race but most of them had a pre-existing condition unrelated to running, it could have happened on the couch at home as well. Don't get discouraged, most people are just jealous your are a runner and secretly wish they could do it as well.
funny you should post this, i was just reading something similar on the RW Daily blog about the age old "you'll ruin your knees" complaint.
i've haven't run a marathon - yet - but hope to someday! We live in a fallen world where disease and injury are part of life -- runner or not. Overall, I think the health benefits of running outweigh the risks. ;-)
Like anything, I think there will always be naysayers and people who don't understand! I just smile and laugh!
I agree with the others. It's far more dangerous to be sedentary than to exercise. As long as you are listening to your body, treating it well, hydrating, getting sufficient rest, eating nutritious foods, etc, then keep doing what you're doing with your training.
It's an interesting article. It doesn't say that running or exercise is bad, just that some endurance sports are linked to higher arrhythmia issues. I haven't read anything about that before. could be true...
I think it's just further evidence that everything should be done in moderation. Exercise is good, but do it too much and you take on some risks. It isn't going to stop me from doing what I want to do, but I think it's good to know that there is risk involved.
Yes, everything in moderation.
