Marathon Training: Week 5

week 5 called for: 3, 5, 3, 10.

monday - i headed out early for a quick 3 miles. felt good, even though it was already so humid at 8:00 a.m.

wednesday - 5 today on another hot day. i was feeling pretty zapped at mile 4, but then i saw a runner about a block a head of me, and that motivated me to keep going. i love when i see people running ahead of me because it gives me something else to focus on, and keeps me going. it ended up being a good run today.

friday - 3 in 100+ degrees before sitting in the sun at a baseball game. somehow i survived.

a busy weekend of baseball games. i didn't get my long run in until today.
today was 10. i did all 10, but after mile 6 i alternated between walking and running. i wasn't very happy about that, but my right knee started hurting and i knew i needed to take it easy for the rest of the run. it was a tough day. i had moments of wanting to quit training. feeling frustrated that i haven't had a good long run for awhile. i know i just need to stick it out though.

week 6 is: 3, 5, 3, 7. a good week for me to step back and take it easy with my knee.

No worry about the walking, what counts is that you finished 10 miles! Your body doesn't know how fast you go but it remembers the time you spent on your feet. The longer it takes, the more you train, so walking is actually beneficial! :) Good job on toughing it out and finish all 10. Hope your knee feels better.

Thanks for all the encouragement, friends! I needed it today!

Today other runners inspired me to keep running just because I saw them running, too, like you mentioned. And you encourage others who see you running, too!

it's the heat i tell ya!

good for to forge ahead! NOT easy in the heat. you're getting back into the groove and it's always hard when the miles start to stack up. but don't forget how much you used to love the 10 miler runs! ;) walk or run, you got it DONE! good job Wendy :)
