Marathon Training: Week 7

Hard to believe i've already completed week 7! i definitely don't feel like i could run a marathon right now, but i will get there. i just need to keep at it every week, and take it one run at a time.
this week was supposed to be: 3, 6, 3, 12, but i changed it up a bit.

monday - did a 7 mile run/walk with my friend carol. we left at 8:30 a.m. and it was already really humid.  she's trying to get back into it. i love helping encourage others!

wednesday - 4 mile "tempo" (it's all relative, right?!) run. i kept my miles just under 9 minutes. felt great today!

thursday - did another 7 mile run/walk with carol in the morning. another hot day. fun to go with her again, and try a new route. we spent most of the time on trails, which i almost never run by myself.

friday -10 miles. which puts me a few miles over for the week. i guess it balances out, since i didn't run every mile. a pretty good run with only 44% humidity today, which felt so much better!

Marathon Training: Week 6

Week 6 called for: 3, 5, 3, 7.
it was a much better week overall, and nice to step back the miles a little. my knee is feeling better.
now i'm just experiencing the minor aches and pains that go along with marathon training.
i am really bad at stretching and doing any sort of cool down/warm up, so i know that doesn't help. i need to work on this.

tuesday - an easy 3. felt good, even though i had just run 10 the day before.

wednesday - it was a good day for a rest day. i lacked motivation. did end up walking 3 miles in the evening, so that made me feel better that i did something.

thursday - 5 (overall pace: 9:33)

friday - walked 3 with the family in the evening. so nice.

saturday - my middle daughter biked by me for 8 miles. (yep, i did more than what i was scheduled for. such an overachiever. ha!) she did awesome! it was a hot day, and she didn't complain once. i was so proud of her! i ran with my nathan handheld water bottle, and that worked really well. i need to start taking gu on my longer runs. felt pretty good overall, especially after mile 3 (which is normal for me). a cold gatorade never tasted so good when i got home.

sunday - biked 10 miles with my hubby while the kids were at the pool with friends. a fun day!

Make that two!

change of plans -- i will be running TWO marathons in october!
two weeks after my marathon, i will be running one with my friend sherri.  i'm so excited to be running with her again! do you remember the last time we did this together? we've done a few other ones together too, including her first 10k, her second 10k, and a 20k. and, of course, i loved being there to see her finish her first full marathon!
this will be her second marathon, and i think it's going to be her best race yet.

Marathon Training: Week 5

week 5 called for: 3, 5, 3, 10.

monday - i headed out early for a quick 3 miles. felt good, even though it was already so humid at 8:00 a.m.

wednesday - 5 today on another hot day. i was feeling pretty zapped at mile 4, but then i saw a runner about a block a head of me, and that motivated me to keep going. i love when i see people running ahead of me because it gives me something else to focus on, and keeps me going. it ended up being a good run today.

friday - 3 in 100+ degrees before sitting in the sun at a baseball game. somehow i survived.

a busy weekend of baseball games. i didn't get my long run in until today.
today was 10. i did all 10, but after mile 6 i alternated between walking and running. i wasn't very happy about that, but my right knee started hurting and i knew i needed to take it easy for the rest of the run. it was a tough day. i had moments of wanting to quit training. feeling frustrated that i haven't had a good long run for awhile. i know i just need to stick it out though.

week 6 is: 3, 5, 3, 7. a good week for me to step back and take it easy with my knee.
pressing on...

Marathon Training: Week 4

Week 4 called for: 3, 4, 3, 9.

monday - was a quick 3 miles around the neighborhood to get it in before it hit 100 degrees. it was hot, sweaty, and stinky. monday is garbage day, so i had to run by lots of smelly garbage cans waiting to be picked up.

tuesday - 5 miles with a friend. nice to run with someone for a change. another hot day. this is definitely the hottest summer i have ever trained in!

thursday - 3. felt good the whole time, and enjoyed running a new route. i ran in a braid rather than a ponytail, and i think it worked better. sometimes it's the little things that make a difference.

saturday - so, so hot. it was a busy morning, and i didn't have a chance to run until mid-afternoon when it was already close to 100.
i wimped out and didn't go.
i ended up biking 10 miles later that evening. that's about the equivalent of running 9 miles, right?! ha ha. i know it's not, but it was a great bike ride anyway.

week 5 is 3, 5, 3, 10. another hot one!
here's to getting all the miles in this coming week.
